IMPORTANT NOTICE

The Traffic Police has no authority to reduce or nullify the disqualification of the driving licence that is meted out by the State Courts of Singapore.

INTRODUCTION

A motorist’s probationary driving licence will be revoked if he/she accumulates 13 or more demerit points within a period of 12 months from the date of the grant of the licence. He/she must retake and pass both the theory and practical tests before he/she can drive again.

A motorists driving licence is liable for suspension upon the accumulation of 24 or more demerit points within a period of 24 months after his/her probation period has ended. Where the suspension period is one year or more, the motorist’s driving licence will be revoked. He/she must retake and pass both the theory and practical tests before he/she can drive again.

If you do not accumulate any more demerit points for a period of 24 months from the date of expiry of the last suspension, all previous suspensions will be removed from your records.

You can check your demerit points status from your Digital Driving Licence on the Singpass app or visit the SPF e-services portal via this link.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Appeals against the reduction of demerit points will not be considered. Only appeals with extenuating reasons with supporting documentary proof will be reviewed.

Motorists are advised to attend the Safety Driving Course (SDC) which will enable the reduction of four demerit points or the Driver Improvement Points System (DIPS) Course which will enable the reduction of suspension from 12 to four weeks (or to one week if the offence is not accident-related) and from 24 weeks to 12 weeks if they clear the course successfully. Details on eligibility for the course can be found on this link.
